How reusable is reusable
Not every poncho sold as reusable is made to last. Here is an honest split of the five styles in this group:
- Made to be kept: the Rainshield PEVA Poncho (50″ x 80″, polyester and mesh pouch, from $4.15, minimum 100) and the Easy-Pak Emergency Poncho (tear-resistant, knee-length, with an aluminum film lining and a whistle on the pouch, from $5.40, minimum 50).
- A few wears: the Disposable Rain Poncho with snap pouch is 0.15mm PE and the supplier rates it for about 2 to 3 uses. The Contain-It is described as “reusable, yet disposable”.
- Reusable pouch: in the Recycled Pouch & Poncho Set the poncho is disposable, but the zippered RPET pouch is what stays in use.
Why PEVA
PEVA is thicker and more flexible than the PE film used in disposable ponchos, it does not contain chlorine like PVC, and it folds back into its pouch after drying. That is why most reusable ponchos in the promotional market are PEVA.
Where reusable ponchos pay off
Company outings, hiking and cycling clubs, car kits and multi-day events, where a disposable poncho would be thrown away after the first shower. For sewn polyester with heat-sealed seams, step up to the Hurley Rain Poncho. For the lowest price per guest, see disposable ponchos. For sleeved jackets, see rain gear.
